It’s just a “Sister, Sister” thing.
Tia Mowry is opening up about comments she made about her relationship with Tamera Mowry-Housley, which made headlines after she wished she and her twin sister were “still close.”
On the first episode of her new reality docuseries “Tia Mowry: My Next Act,” released earlier this month, the actress discussed the feeling of loneliness amid her 2023 divorce from actor Cory Hardrict, saying: “It’s times like this when I feel and wish that my sister and I were still close.”
In the episode, “The Game” star went on to say she and her sister’s relationship has changed since they live in different cities and have their own families. But without the full context, the admission caused a stir among fans.
Mowry wasn’t surprised by the reaction. “It’s part of being in this industry,” the “Family Reunion” actress tells USA TODAY.

She says fans are attached to the idea of the twins being inseparable.
“How they were introduced to my sister and I was us being a unit and us being together. That’s sketched in their brains,” she says of their 1990s sitcom. So when people hear a comment that puts the sisters’ relationship into context, she says, “I think fear sets in for them, and they automatically go to the negative.”
She also thinks part of the uproar stemmed from people’s own discomfort.
“Sometimes people project their own fears and traumas onto other people and not really looking at the reality of the situation,” she continues. “I understand, I get that. People are going to hear what they want to hear and sometimes go to the worst-case scenario. It’s a fear response.”
Tia Mowry says her kidsaren’t interested in pursuing acting: ‘I don’t see it happening’
As for Mowry-Housley’s take on the whole thing, Mowry says the sisters are on the same page.
“My sister, I can’t speak on her behalf, but we have talked, and she’s not surprised. It is, again, something that just tends to happen when you are in this industry and you build thick skin because of it,” she says. “We’ve been in this industry for a long time, and it’s nothing new, meaning things being taken out of context.”
“My Next Act” follows Mowry over eight episodes as she navigates being newly single and living outside of a duo for the first time in her life.
The series airs Fridays at 8 p.m. EST and 7 p.m. CST on We TV and streaming on ALLBLK, AMC’s streaming service.
The 4U by Tia founder first filed for divorce from “American Sniper” actor and ex Hardrict in 2022 after 14 years of marriage. The divorce was finalized in 2023.
The former couple share two children, a son named Cree and a daughter named Cairo.
